Until this is explicitly confirmed by Nintendo, please take everything in this article as purely speculation, and with a grain of salt.
It appears to fans that Nintendo may have taken a step towards more diversity and inclusion in its intellectual property. Specifically, fans noticed that Shiver โ one of the members of the new idol Deep Cut in Splatoon 3 โ has only been referred to by gender-neutral pronouns in what the public has been shown of the game. While Nintendo hasn’t explicitly confirmed this, many online have shared their excitement for an addition of an non-binary character in a Nintendo series:
The game’s colour scheme that’s being used in promotions โ consisting of yellow, white, purple, and black โ are also the colours of the non-binary flag, which is further evidence for some that this is indeed the case. If this is indeed the case: the representation is absolutely great to see, especially in a major title like Splatoon 3!
The demo of Splatoon 3: Splatfest World Premiere goes live August 27th, 2022. The full game releases September 9th, 2022 and is available for pre-order on the eShop now.
