Nintendo Reportedly Suspends Twitter Ads Following Acquisition by Elon Musk

Reportedly freezing ads “until things [calm] down”

A new report from various outlets indicates that Interpublic Group (I.G.), an advertising agency of which Nintendo is a client, has advised its clients to suspend advertising on Twitter following its purchase by Elon Musk. As The Register reports, I.G. advised their clients to put an “ad freeze” into place “until things [calm] down.” Nintendo, reportedly, is one of the clients who listened to that advisory from I.G. and pulled their ads for the time being.

It’s important to note that while Musk’s purchase has drawn praise, backlash, constructive criticism, and everything in-between from across the website, it is very common for ad agencies to pull back after an acquisition (especially one as public as Twitter’s was) for the time being while they get a sense of the new direction the app is going in under new leadership.

We have reached out to Nintendo for comment, and will update this story if/when we hear back.

Until this is explicitly confirmed by Nintendo, please take everything in this article as purely speculation, and with a grain of salt.
